Artist's Description

We came across this purple gallinule while visiting Circle B Bar Reserve near Lakeland, Florida. The bird has a beautiful display of color that changes depending on its position toward the light. He measures about 13 inches (33 cm) from beak-tip to tail-tip. The green plant floating on the water is duckweed.
